Pedro Denga

President/CEO

Mr. Denga has had over 30 years of experience serving refugees and immigrants in the community. His passion for serving the immigrant community comes from his personal experience having immigrated to the United States as a refugee. Born in Angola, Mr. Denga fled Angola as a teenager in 1961 and resided in Democratic Republic of Congo as a refugee. When Angola became independent in 1975, Mr. Denga returned to Angola to champion Western values and came under renewed attacks and threats from communist forces in Angola. As a result, he returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he remained as refugee until 1981 when he and his family immigrated to the United States. Mr. Denga is, therefore,  familiar with the numerous challenges refugees and immigrants experience upon arriving the United States. IRCA was founded to help bridge this gap.

Prior to working with IRCA, Mr. Denga founded Refugee and Immigrant Relief Center, Inc., and between 2006 and 2011, and directly supervised the organization’s various state and federally funded programs: Reception and Placement Program, the Refugee Program, the Matching Grant Program, and the Preferred Communities Program. Also, Mr. Denga was Program Director at Betania Community Center, between 1994 and 2006, and Program Coordinator at Wesley Community Center, between 1986 and 1994.
